Dr. Tarek A. Elgohary is an associate professor at the UCF mechanical and aerospace engineering department. He is the director of the Astrodynamics and Space Robotics Laboratory. Before joining UCF, he was a postdoctoral research associate at Texas A&M and a visiting scholar in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. He received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the American University in Cairo and his master’s degree and Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from Texas A&M University. His research interests are in astrodynamics, optimal control, robotics and space situational awareness.
Karim is an accomplished aerospace engineer with a robust background in
satellite orbit propagation and estimation for ground station operations, orbit design and space dynamics. Karim holds a master’s degree in satellite orbit estimation, underscoring their expertise in this critical area of space engineering, entrusted with the design and execution of satellite maneuvers for orbit correction, maintenance, and decay, ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of satellite missions. A key aspect of Karim’s work involves the design of satellite propulsion systems, with a particular focus on cold gas thrusters. In addition to the satellite’s attitude control systems, utilizing cold gas thrusters along with sensors, actuators, and PID controllers to maintain precise orientation and stability.
